Modus Cylinder Pressure Issues

Alright, petrolheads! My 2012 Renault Modus diesel is giving me grief. I've got cylinder pressure fluctuations, higher fuel consumption than usual, the engine feels like it's lost a bunch of ponies, and the check engine light is mocking me from the dashboard. The car has 69121 km. I checked for obvious stuff like leaks, but nada. Could this be head gasket, intake manifold, piston rings, camshaft, or even timing belt related? I’m pulling my hair out here!

Summary of the thread

A 2012 Renault Modus diesel was experiencing cylinder pressure fluctuations, increased fuel consumption, power loss, and an illuminated check engine light. Initial checks for leaks revealed nothing, leading to speculation about potential issues with the head gasket, intake manifold, piston rings, camshaft, or timing belt. However, after scanning for error codes and consulting a workshop, the problem was identified as a faulty sensor causing incorrect signals to the ECU. Replacing the sensor resolved the issues, restoring the car's performance.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hey, I had similar symptoms with my Modus! Sounds like a consequential error. The engine light came on, power loss was noticeable, and the fuel consumption went through the roof. Have you scanned for error codes?

Thanks for the quick reply! Yeah, I scanned it and it points towards cylinder pressure issues, but I'm not sure if that's the root cause or just a symptom. What was the 'consequential error' you found on your car?

Mine was indeed a consequential error, the cylinder issue was thrown because another sensor gave a wrong signal to the ECU. I highly suggest taking it to a workshop for a proper diagnostic before you start replacing parts. Could be a costly mistake otherwise.

Thanks to your tip, I took it to a workshop. Turns out it was a faulty sensor causing all the chaos! They replaced it, cleared the codes, and the car's running like new. Repair cost: 0€ Huge thanks for pointing me in the right direction!
