Modus electric steering column fault
Summary of the thread
A 2006 Renault Modus diesel is experiencing an issue with the electric steering column adjustment, which has stopped functioning. The error memory indicates a fault, but the cables and plugs appear intact. Possible causes include a defective steering column switch or a need for recalibration. Suggested solutions involve checking the fuses, replacing the switch, or seeking professional recalibration at a workshop.

When you say "steering column switch," do you mean the stalk where you adjust the column, or is there another switch on the column itself? And fuse-wise, is there a specific one I should check, or just check them all?

Yes, I mean the stalk. Check the dedicated fuses in the fuse box first, according to your car manual. In my case, the problem persisted even after replacing the stalk. I went to a workshop, and they said recalibration was necessary. You should prepare for that.

Recalibration noted. Sounds like I'm going to a workshop. The mechanic said the error code indicated a defective cable or plug connection. The repair was 95€, so I told him to proceed. Thanks for sharing your experience; at least I know what to expect!

I had a similar issue with my Modus, though I can't remember the year. If the cables and connection are okay, it might be the steering column switch itself. It may be defective. Have you checked the fuses? Replacing the switch might be cheaper than the entire column.
