Modus engine stalling fuel tank leak

I've got a 2012 Renault Modus diesel with about 180k km on it. Recently the check engine light popped up, and the engine stalls sometimes when idling. Could this be related to a fuel tank ventilation system leak possibly from a defective activated charcoal filter? Any ideas?

Summary of the thread

A 2012 Renault Modus diesel with 180,000 km experienced engine stalling and a check engine light, suspected to be linked to a fuel tank ventilation system leak. The issue was potentially caused by a defective activated charcoal filter affecting the purge valve. A similar problem in another vehicle was resolved by checking the emission control system, leading to the suggestion of professional diagnosis. The problem was confirmed and repaired, restoring the vehicle's performance.

Sounds familiar. I had similar issues with my old Opel Astra a few years back. Check engine light and occasional stalling. Turned out to be the purge valve playing up, messing with the air flow. Could be something similar with your Modus?

Interesting! Where exactly is the purge valve located, and how did you figure out it was the problem? Was it a difficult fix?

On my Astra, it was near the intake manifold, but it might be different on your Modus. I didn't figure it out myself, honestly. Took it to a workshop, they ran some tests related to the emission control system and pinpointed it quickly as the root of the air flow problem. They also spoke about the activated charcoal filter. Best to get it checked professionally to avoid further issues.

Thanks a lot for the help! I took it to the mechanics, and you were spot on. It was indeed a leak in the fuel tank ventilation system, caused by a defective activated charcoal filter that was messing with the purge valve. Cost me around 275€ to get it sorted, but at least it's running smoothly again. Appreciate the advice, it pointed me in the right direction!
