Modus fuel level sensor issue

Help! My 2005 Renault Modus with a gasoline engine is driving me nuts. The check engine light is on, it stalls at idle sometimes, and the error memory says something about the fuel level sensor. Could it be a fuse? I'm not really a car guy, so ELI5 please!

I had something similar happen with my Modus. Does the fuel gauge seem to be acting erratically, like showing empty when you know there's gas in the tank, or vice versa? Have you noticed if it mainly happens when the tank is below a certain level? Could be a bad sensor, or maybe just a loose connection. Check the wiring harness first.

Yeah, the fuel gauge is all over the place! Sometimes it's right, sometimes it's not. Where exactly should I be looking for this wiring harness?

Okay, sounds like the fuel level sensor for sure. Honestly, tracing the wires without proper diagrams is a pain. It's located in the fuel tank itself. My advice? Take it to a workshop. They'll diagnose it properly and replace the sensor if needed. Might save you a lot of headache.

Cheers! Took it to the garage like you suggested, and you were spot on, it was the fuel level sensor. Cost me 52€ all in. Runs like a dream now!
