Modus Radiator Fan Malfunction

My 2005 Renault Modus (gasoline engine) is having a radiator fan issue at 137210 km. The engine's overheating, and the check engine light's on. Diagnostics point to a possible fan speed sensor fault. Anyone seen this before?

Summary of the thread

A 2005 Renault Modus is experiencing a radiator fan malfunction, leading to engine overheating and an illuminated check engine light. Diagnostics suggest a potential fault with the fan speed sensor. A similar issue was resolved by checking the thermal switch near the radiator, which could be a contributing factor. The recommended solution is to visit a workshop for professional diagnosis and repair.

I had similar overheating with my Modus, though it was a different year. Sounds familiar. Did you check the thermal switch? That was my first thought when my engine overheated.

I appreciate the suggestion. Can you give me more details about the thermal switch? Where is it located, and how did you figure out that was the problem?

On my Modus, the thermal switch was near the radiator. The radiator fan ran constantly when it was faulty. Since your check engine light is on and you think it's a speed sensor, it's probably time for a workshop. My issue was a faulty sensor, and the repair was about 250€.

Thanks for the info and advice. A workshop visit seems like the best idea. I'll post the outcome to the forum. I also paid 250€ for the repair.
