Modus Tailgate Sensor Fault

I own a 2006 Renault Modus with a diesel engine, and recently the automatic tailgate doesn't open completely anymore. The error memory shows a fault with the tailgate hall sensor, which detects the tailgate position. The mechanic suspects a defective cable or plug connection. Has anyone experienced a similar issue with their Modus?

Summary of the thread

A 2006 Renault Modus owner is experiencing an issue with the automatic tailgate not opening completely, attributed to a fault in the tailgate hall sensor, which detects the tailgate's position. The mechanic suspects a defective cable or plug connection as the cause. A similar issue was resolved by addressing a corroded electrical sensor connector near the tailgate hinge, suggesting that cleaning and applying contact spray might fix the problem. Seeking professional assistance is recommended to avoid potential damage.

Hey! I also drive a Modus, though I can't remember the exact year right now. I had a similar problem with my power tailgate a while back. By 'hall sensor' are you talking about the sensor that tells the car if the tailgate is closed? I had issues where the car thought the tailgate was still open, even when it was shut. It turned out to be a corroded electrical sensor connector. Where did they find the fault?

Yes, that's exactly the sensor I meant - the one that detects whether the tailgate is closed or not. You mentioned a corroded connector; was it difficult to access and check? Is that something I can check myself?

Honestly, I'm not that technically gifted when it comes to car repairs, so I didn't check it myself. I took it straight to a workshop. They located the corroded connector near the tailgate hinge, cleaned it, and applied some contact spray. If you're not confident doing it yourself, I'd suggest doing the same. You'll need some special tools for releasing the plug and there's always a risk of damaging something if you're not careful. In my case, I paid around 95€ including error memory deletion, which I think is reasonable.

That's great advice, thank you! I think I'll follow your suggestion and take it to a workshop. I'd rather be safe than sorry and risk making things worse. At least I now have a better idea of what the problem is and what to expect in terms of repair costs. I appreciate your help!
