Modus Transmission Problems

Okay, I'm officially stressed. I've got a 2006 Renault Modus, diesel engine, and it's playing up something fierce. The mileage is at 106531 km. Basically, the automatic gearbox is a nightmare. The paddle shifters are completely dead – won't shift at all. And even in full auto, the shifts are slipping, feel unclean, and I'm hearing these awful grinding noises sometimes when it tries to change gear. Plus, the paddles are super slow to respond, and now the gearbox is stuck in emergency mode. I plugged it into a code reader, and it's throwing up a transmission error. Any ideas?

Sounds familiar. I had similar transmission problems with my Modus. Is it only the paddle shifters, or does the whole gearbox feel off? Does it feel like it's stuck in a single gear sometimes?

Thanks for the reply! It's definitely more than just the paddles. It feels like the whole gearbox is messed up. And yeah, sometimes it feels like it's stuck in a gear, especially when pulling away. Did yours go into emergency mode too?

Yep, mine went into emergency mode as well. All the same symptoms, turned out to be the transmission control unit. Given what you're describing, I'd say yours is probably the same. You're likely looking at getting it replaced. Best to take it to a workshop to confirm. It'll cost you a grand, give or take.

Right, that's what I feared. Thanks for confirming, though. I appreciate you sharing your experience! I bit the bullet and took it to a shop, and you were spot on. It was the transmission control unit. Cost me 1000€ to get it sorted, but at least it's running smoothly again now.
