Mokka automatic transmission parking issue

I am experiencing an issue with my 2015 Vauxhall Mokka (gasoline engine). With 70913 km mileage, the automatic transmission's parking position appears defective. Symptoms include failure to start, illumination of the check engine light, erratic gear shifts, and a stored error code. Suspect control unit malfunction. Any insights?

That sounds rough. Does it happen every time you put it in park, or is it intermittent? Have you checked the gear shifter cable for any obvious damage or looseness?

The issue is intermittent, but becoming more frequent. Where is the gear shifter cable located on this model? Are there any specific sensors I should inspect first before looking at the cable?

The cable runs from the shifter to the transmission, usually underneath the car. Honestly, with those symptoms and the error code, the affected control unit being defective sounds plausible. You're probably best off getting it checked by a workshop, just in case it is something more serious inside the transmission.

Thank you for the input. The diagnostic pointed to a faulty transmission control unit. Repair cost will be around 1000€. Appreciate the advice.
