Mokka diesel turbo issue

Hey, I'm having a nightmare with my 2012 Vauxhall Mokka diesel. The check engine light is on, and it feels like I'm driving with half the engine power! It's got almost 70k km on the clock. Engine response is terrible, and there's this weird whistling, even a loud hissing when I accelerate. Sometimes it even stalls when I'm idling! I think the MPG is suffering too. I've been reading online, and it sounds like it could be something to do with the turbo. Anyone else had similar issues with boost pressure? Is it the pressure sensor?

Sounds like a boost pressure actuator fault. The whistling and hissing are classic signs. Could be a defective electrical bypass valve. Check the vacuum lines to the turbo and wastegate. Get the codes read. A faulty boost control solenoid can also cause these symptoms, so worth a quick look. Have you checked for any error codes relating to the turbo system?

Thanks for the reply! I'm not super technical, but I'll check the vacuum lines as best I can. Where exactly is the boost control solenoid located? And if it is the electrical bypass valve, is that a big job to replace?

The boost control solenoid is usually mounted near the turbo. Trace the vacuum lines coming from the turbo, you should find it. As for the electrical bypass valve, you're probably looking at a shop job unless you have decent tools and some experience. Before throwing parts, get a proper diagnostic done. Seems like the valve is defective. Consider a workshop visit.

Okay, thanks for the advice. Took it to a local shop. They confirmed it was the electrical bypass valve and replaced it. Cost me 250€. Runs like a dream now!
