Mokka Electric Alarm Chaos: Random Triggers & No-Shows

Hey there, having issues with my 2021 Vauxhall Mokka Electric. The alarm keeps going off out of nowhere and sometimes doesn't activate at all. I suspect it might be the backup battery in the alarm system. Has anyone experienced similar problems? Looking for recommendations on trusted mechanics who've dealt with this, my last repair shop experience wasn't great. Car's done about 189,459 km. Thanks in advance!

Had the same issue with my 2018 Vauxhall Corsa-e last winter. The backup battery was indeed the culprit, it's a common problem when these batteries age. Got it sorted at the main dealer after a local shop couldn't properly diagnose it. The battery had discharged due to aging, causing the erratic alarm behavior. The fix wasn't particularly complex, but it needed proper diagnostic equipment to identify the issue correctly. They had to replace the backup battery unit and recalibrate the alarm system. Job took about 2 hours. While they had it in, they also checked the main battery system, always worth doing with EVs when electrical issues pop up. Turned out to be just the backup battery though, nothing serious with the main systems. I'd recommend going to a Vauxhall dealer for this one, especially since it's an EV. They have the right diagnostic tools and experience with these specific alarm systems.

Thanks! That's really helpful info, exactly what I was looking for. Good to know it was just the backup battery in your case. Do you remember roughly how much you paid for the fix? Also, has everything been working fine since then, or have you had any other electrical niggles pop up? I'm gonna look into booking it with the dealer based on your experience. Just hope they don't try to fleece me on the price!

Hey again! Glad I could help with my experience. Actually just got it fixed last week, the mechanic confirmed it was indeed the faulty backup battery in the anti-theft system, just like I suspected. Total bill came to 330.00 € which covered the battery replacement and recalibration work. Since the repair, everything's been working perfectly, no more unusual alarms or activation issues. The car feels like new again! And I've had zero electrical problems since then, so it was definitely worth going to the dealer despite the cost. Trust me, while the price might seem a bit steep, it's better than having an unreliable alarm system or risking damage to other electrical components. The Vauxhall dealers might be pricier than local shops, but their expertise with EVs really makes the difference, they knew exactly what they were doing with my Corsa-e. Let me know how you get on with yours! If you need any other tips about dealing with the dealer, just give me a shout.

Cheers for all the details! Just got back from the dealer yesterday and you were spot on, it was the backup battery causing all the drama. Paid about 345€, which wasn't too bad considering all the horror stories I'd heard about EV repairs. The service was actually pretty decent! They had it sorted in just over 2 hours, and the mechanic took time to explain everything they did. Even gave the rest of the electrical system a once-over, just to be safe. No more unusual alarm episodes since then, thank goodness! Was getting pretty tired of apologizing to the neighbors at 3 AM. Really glad I followed your advice about going to the dealer instead of trying my luck with a local garage again. Sometimes it's worth paying a bit extra for peace of mind, especially with these high-tech cars. Thanks again for all your help, saved me loads of headache trying to figure this out on my own!
