Mokka engine control malfunction

Alright, car gurus, I'm officially stumped. My 2017 Vauxhall Mokka (gasoline engine) is throwing a tantrum. 87766 km on the clock. I'm getting an 'engine control malfunction' message, and the darn thing just won't start! I checked the basics, like fuses and tried to jump start it, but nothing seems to work. Could it be a fuel injection problem or something more sinister like an ECU issue? Any ideas before I'm forced to take it to the garage?

Hey there, sorry to hear about your Mokka. I had a similar issue with mine, although I can't remember if the error message was exactly the same. It also refused to start. Did you by any chance check the cable connections of the battery?

Cable connections, you say? Hmmm, I gave them a quick once-over, but maybe I wasn't thorough enough. What exactly should I be looking for? Loose connections? Corrosion? Could something like that really stop the engine from starting completely?

Yes, in my case the cable connections were indeed the root cause of the problem. Although it seemed fine to me at first, after a closer inspection I noticed that the cable connections were not good, which caused the car to not start. Anyway, if that is not the case for you, I would suggest going to the workshop. It could be an engine software or ECU issue, which requires professional diagnostics.

You legend! It WAS the battery connections! Gave them a proper clean and tightened everything up, and she fired right up. Cost me 155€ at the end. Can't believe it was something so simple. Thanks a million for the tip!
