Mokka exhaust back pressure sensor issue

I have a 2020 Vauxhall Mokka with a diesel engine. The warning light is on, engine power is reduced, there's smoke when accelerating, plus a strong exhaust smell. The car has done 240653 km. I suspect the diesel particulate filter exhaust pressure is too low. Could a defective exhaust back pressure sensor be the culprit?

I had a similar problem with my Mokka. Reduced power and that awful smell, it was the diesel particulate filter acting up. What kind of driving do you usually do?

Mostly motorway miles, but also some shorter trips in town. Do you remember what exactly was causing the issue in your car, and how it was diagnosed?

It was the exhaust back pressure sensor like you mentioned. They ran some diagnostics at the workshop. I suggest you get it checked professionally, could save you a lot of hassle.

Thanks for the advice. I took it to a mechanic, and you were right, it was the exhaust back pressure sensor. Replaced it for 245€. Runs like new now.
