Mokka Exhaust Leak Lambda Sensor
Summary of the thread
A 2014 Vauxhall Mokka with a gasoline engine exhibited a check engine light, rough running, and a noticeable exhaust leak. The initial concern was whether the issue was related to DEF fluid or the catalytic converter. However, the symptoms pointed towards a defective lambda sensor or an exhaust pipe issue. After inspection and replacement of the lambda sensor, the car's performance improved, resolving the check engine light and exhaust fumes problem.

Thanks for the quick reply! I haven't specifically checked the lambda sensor, but I did take a quick look under the car. I didn't see anything obvious. Where exactly should I be looking for exhaust leaks?

The exhaust leak could be anywhere from the manifold to the tailpipe. Given the age and mileage, corrosion is probable, particularly around joints and welds. But your symptoms strongly suggest issues with the Lambda sensor. Your car may greatly benefit from a visit to a workshop.

Thanks for the advice! It turns out it was indeed the lambda sensor as you suspected. Got it replaced at a garage for 375€. Car runs much better now, no more check engine light or exhaust fumes!

The rough running, exhaust leak and strong odor, point to something more specific than a general DEF fluid issue. A defective lambda sensor could certainly produce those symptoms, or maybe you have an exhaust pipe issue. Have you inspected the exhaust pipe for any visible damage or holes?
