Mokka oil pressure warning lamp and mechanical noise

I'm having a worrying issue with my 2019 Vauxhall Mokka diesel. The oil pressure warning lamp keeps lighting up, and there's a loud mechanical noise coming from the engine. The car has 143337 km on the clock. Could this be related to a defect in the oil pump?

That sounds rough. I had a similar problem with my Mokka, although I didn't get the noises at first. The light was flickering. Have you checked for any oil leaks or if the oil filter is clogged? What does the oil pressure gauge say, if you have one?

I haven't spotted any visible oil leaks. I'm pretty sure that the oil filter isn't clogged because I changed it like 2 weeks ago and the oil pressure gauge does not show any value, which is quite suspicious. Was your problem also related to the oil pump?

Yup, sounds like it. Eventually, it was the oil pump. Symptoms were the same, just started quieter. Oil pumps can be funny things, a bit like a dodgy heart in a human body. The only way to know for sure is to get it checked out by a mechanic. I'd advise against driving it too much in the meantime, you don't want to cause any serious damage.

I took it to a mechanic and they confirmed it was indeed the oil pump. The repair cost me 755€. It's all sorted now, but thanks again for pointing me in the right direction.
