Mokka rain light sensor fault

Hi, I have a 2018 Vauxhall Mokka with a diesel engine. Recently, I've been having some trouble with what I think is the rain-light sensor. The error memory stores an error. The automatic wiping mode isn't working during rain. The headlights don't automatically turn on and off. Also, the speedometer dimming is not working. Instead, the lights switch on permanently. Any ideas?

That sounds like a sensor fault. I had a similar electrical fault with my 2016 BMW 3 Series. The rain sensor and automatic headlight control went haywire. Did you check for any visible damage to the sensor itself? The sensor is usually located near the rearview mirror on the windshield.

Thanks for the quick reply! I had a look, but I am not really tech-savvy. I couldn't see anything obvious. What exactly should I be looking for?

In my case with the BMW, bubbles had formed under the gel pad of the windshield, which affected the sensor's readings. These sensors rely on refraction of light, so any obstruction or defect can cause problems. Given the symptoms you describe, it's likely a sensor issue. I would recommend taking it to a workshop for a diagnostic check. It cost me 62€ to get it fixed.

Thanks for the help. I'll take it to a local garage and see what they say. Sounds like it's beyond my capabilities to fix myself.
