Mokka Transmission Issues

My 2013 Vauxhall Mokka (gasoline engine, 151139 km) is having issues. The engine and transmission warning lights come on. Error codes point to the transmission oil temperature sensor. The gearbox sometimes goes into emergency mode, shifting is rough, and I hear grinding. Could this be a sensor issue or something worse? Could low gearbox oil cause this?

Sounds like a headache. The gearbox sensor issue could be the problem, especially with those symptoms. Low oil level is a good thought. Have you checked it? It's a pain on some cars, but worth checking before replacing parts. Is the grinding constant or only when it's acting up?

I haven't checked the gearbox oil level myself. I'm not sure where the fill point is. The grinding only happens when the gearbox is acting up. If it is not in emergency mode, I hear nothing. Could something else trigger the sensor, or is the sensor faulty?

If you haven't checked the oil level, start there! It could trigger the sensor if it's low. A faulty sensor is possible too. With those symptoms and error codes, take it to a workshop. They can diagnose the sensor and check the oil level/condition. It might save money in the long run.

I took it to a local workshop. They confirmed the gearbox oil level was low, triggering the error codes and emergency mode. They topped it off and replaced the faulty sensor. The total repair cost was 365€. Everything runs smoothly now.
