Mokka transmission oil pressure sensor fault

I'm having trouble with my 2013 Vauxhall Mokka diesel. It has 76895 km on the clock. The engine warning light is on, and the error memory shows a transmission oil pressure sensor fault. The gearbox is in emergency mode, sometimes slips, shifts reluctantly, and there’s an occasional grinding noise. Has anyone else had this?

I had a similar problem with my Vauxhall Antara (gearbox slipping and warning light). Your Mokka might be experiencing something similar. Did you check the gearbox oil level? Mine was low, which caused the sensor to throw an error. What's the oil level like?

Thanks for the quick response. I hadn't thought about the oil level. Where's the fill point, and is there a dipstick for the transmission, or is it a 'check-plug' setup? I'm assuming it's separate from the engine oil?

Yes, it's separate from the engine oil. You might be able to top it up, but I'd suggest taking it to a trusted workshop. For me, it was a 'chicken-and-egg' situation: low oil caused the sensor fault, but there might be a reason for oil loss that you'll want checked. It's like ignoring a small leak in your water pipes, which will become a swimming pool later.

Understood, thanks for the advice. It was indeed low oil level. I've just got the Mokka back from the workshop. They found a minor leak and refilled the transmission. The sensor was replaced as a precaution. The total bill came to 365€. I'm grateful for your help!
