Mondeo Automatic Transmission Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2016 Ford Mondeo diesel is experiencing erratic shifting and a transmission warning light, with the vehicle sometimes feeling stuck in emergency mode. The issue may be linked to low voltage affecting the transmission's electronic control unit, as indicated by dimming lights. Checking and addressing the battery and charging system resolved the problem, with the transmission oil replaced and electrical issues fixed, leading to smooth shifting again.

Voltage, huh? I hadn't considered that. I'll have to check. What's the connection between the voltage and the transmission? And yeah, the lights dimmed for a moment last week, now that you mention it.

Low voltage can mess with the transmission's electronic control unit. It's like trying to run a computer on a dying battery – things get glitchy. The TCU needs stable voltage to properly control the solenoids that manage the shifting. If the lights dimmed, that's a big clue. Get the battery and charging system checked. In my case, the low voltage was the culprit.

I got the battery and charging system checked. The undervoltage had indeed caused the transmission oil to wear out prematurely. They replaced the oil and fixed the electrical issue. Cost me 240€, but it's shifting smoothly again.

Sounds familiar. I had a similar issue with my Mondeo automatic. The implausible shifting and the light are dead giveaways. What was the voltage of your battery before this issue started? Did you notice any other electrical weirdness, like the lights dimming or the radio cutting out?
