Mondeo Clutch Pedal Switch Issue

My 2002 Ford Mondeo gasoline is throwing a weird set of codes. 188386 km on the clock. I'm getting an error stored in the error memory, the gear selection display in the speedometer is dead, cruise control is kaput, and sometimes it won't even start. Suspect the clutch pedal switch. Wiring and plug look suspect. Anyone seen this before?

Sounds like the clutch switch. The symptoms align. Does the error code point directly to it? Have you checked continuity on the switch itself? A faulty switch will definitely disable the cruise control and prevent starting as it's a safety interlock.

The code isn't super specific, just mentions an open circuit in the safety switch system. How can I properly test the continuity of the clutch switch? I'm familiar with a multimeter, but what readings should I expect when the pedal is pressed and released?

Given the symptoms and the generic code, replacing the switch is a reasonable next step. However, if you want to be absolutely sure, test the switch with the multimeter and check the wiring harness for shorts. Given the age of your Mondeo, it might be time to visit a workshop. A bad switch will cause all your issues.

Thanks for confirming my suspicions. Replaced the clutch pedal switch; total cost 95€. Everything's back to normal – gear selection display works, cruise control is functional, and starts every time. Faulty connection as suspected.
