Mondeo Engine Power Loss

Hey, I'm freaking out! My 2012 Ford Mondeo diesel is acting up. It has 169182 km on the clock. Engine power is way down, and the engine light is on! A cheap scanner spat out a fault code. I'm no mechanic, but could this be related to the chip tuning I had done? Hoping it's not gonna cost an arm and a leg!

I had a similar issue with my Mondeo: reduced engine power and an error code. Do you know the exact diagnostic code the scanner gave you? Was the chip tuning done by a reputable company or a third-party?

Thanks for the quick reply! I remember something about faulty chip tuning by third-party providers. Is that what you're thinking? The code was something like Pxxxx - I can't remember. Any idea if this is serious?

Yep, sounds very familiar. My Mondeo had the same symptoms. It turned out the tuning was messing with the engine's computer (ECU). If it's definitely the tuning, you're probably best off taking it to a workshop to get it checked out and potentially removed or re-flashed. They will use a more advanced scan tool and be able to tell exactly what is happening.

Thanks a million for the advice! I took it to a workshop and you were spot on. The dodgy chip tuning was causing all the problems. It cost me 180€ to get it sorted, but at least my Mondeo is back to its old self!
