Mondeo hybrid transmission problems
Summary of the thread
A 2017 Ford Mondeo hybrid is experiencing transmission problems, including slipping, grinding noises, slow paddle shifter response, and emergency mode activation, with error codes stored. These symptoms suggest a likely defective transmission control unit (TCU). It is advised to have the vehicle checked by a workshop to confirm the TCU issue and avoid further damage. The workshop confirmed the TCU defect, and repair costs are estimated at around 1000€.

It seems to be happening in all gears. I haven't checked the fluid level. Is that difficult to do on this model?

Checking the fluid level on that Mondeo hybrid can be a bit tricky; it doesn't have a dipstick like older cars. You usually need to access a specific check plug on the transmission itself. Considering the symptoms and that it affects all gears, plus the fact that you're getting error codes, I really wouldn't drive it much further. Get it to a workshop to confirm the TCU issue before it causes more damage. These units are known to be prone to failure.

Thanks for the advice. I took it to a workshop, and they confirmed it's a defective transmission control unit. Repair will be around 1000€. At least now I know what's wrong and can get it fixed.

Sounds like it, unfortunately. The symptoms you're describing – slipping, grinding, emergency mode, and paddle shifter issues – are all classic signs of a failing TCU, especially with error codes being thrown. Is it only happening in certain gears or all of them? Have you checked the transmission fluid level and condition? Low or burnt fluid can sometimes mimic TCU issues, although given the other symptoms, that's less likely.
