Mondeo Knock Sensor Defect

Hi, I'm having trouble with my 2010 Ford Mondeo gasoline. The check engine light is on, and I've noticed higher fuel consumption lately. Plus, the engine idles unevenly sometimes. I ran a scan and it says the knock sensor is defective. Could it be something simple, like a loose wire? Anyone experienced this before?

Hey, I had a similar issue with my old Opel Astra, although it was the camshaft position sensor. Check engine light, rough idle – the whole shebang. Did the error code specifically mention the knock sensor, or did it give a more general engine code? Sometimes, a faulty cable or plug connection can trigger those sensors. Have you checked those?

Thanks for the tip! Yes, the error code specifically mentioned the knock sensor. Where exactly should I be looking for the cable and plug connection? Is it easy to get to, or am I better off just taking it to a mechanic?

Okay, if it's the knock sensor specifically, the connection is usually near the sensor itself, which is typically mounted on the engine block. It can be tricky to reach depending on your engine layout. If you're not comfortable fiddling around, and you don't want to risk making things worse, a workshop might be the best bet. Could save you time and potential headaches. I ended up going to a shop for my Astra.

Thanks for the advice! I took it to a local mechanic, and you were right – it was a defective cable at the plug connection. They replaced it, and now the engine runs smoothly again. The whole repair including labour was 95€ Appreciate the help!
