Mondeo Manifold Pressure Sensor Issue

Hi, I'm having some trouble with my 2018 Ford Mondeo gasoline. The check engine light is on, and I've noticed a significant reduction in engine power and poor engine response. Fuel consumption seems higher too. My car has 70316 km on it. I suspect it might be a faulty manifold pressure sensor. Has anyone else experienced similar issues?

Summary of the thread

A 2018 Ford Mondeo experienced issues such as a check engine light, reduced engine power, poor response, and increased fuel consumption, suspected to be due to a faulty manifold pressure sensor. These symptoms align with a potential problem with the Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor, possibly exacerbated by a vacuum leak. A visual inspection for vacuum leaks was suggested, but a professional diagnostic evaluation was recommended for accurate diagnosis. The issue was confirmed to be a faulty sensor and a large vacuum leak, both of which were resolved by replacing the sensor.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Indeed, your symptoms strongly suggest a potential issue with the Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor. The check engine light illumination, coupled with reduced engine power and increased fuel consumption, are all telltale signs. I encountered a similar problem with my previous vehicle, a 2016 Opel Insignia diesel. Have you attempted to visually inspect the intake manifold for any obvious signs of vacuum leakage? A large vacuum leak can indeed cause a faulty MAP sensor reading.

Thanks for the quick response. I did a quick visual check, but didn't spot anything obvious. Where exactly should I be looking for vacuum leaks around the intake manifold? Are there any specific areas that are more prone to leaking?

Given your inability to identify any discernible vacuum leaks through visual inspection, it is advisable to have the vehicle undergo a comprehensive diagnostic evaluation at a qualified workshop. While I understand your desire to pinpoint the precise location of a potential leak, accurately diagnosing such issues often necessitates specialized equipment and expertise. In my professional opinion, further self-diagnosis without proper tools could potentially exacerbate the problem. Considering the information at hand, I would recommend scheduling an appointment with a trusted automotive technician to conduct a thorough inspection of the intake manifold and associated components.

Thanks for the advice. I took it to the workshop, and you were right – it was the manifold pressure sensor. Turns out there was a large vacuum leak as well. They replaced the sensor, and all seems fine now. Repair cost was 235€ Appreciate the help!
