Mondeo Power Loss Whistling Noise

I'm having a heck of a time with my 2011 Ford Mondeo, diesel engine. It's got 214782 km on the clock. The check engine light keeps popping on, and the power is just GONE. Engine response is terrible, sometimes it even stalls when I'm idling. Plus, my fuel consumption has gone through the roof! I'm hearing a whistling noise, almost like a tea kettle, and a LOUD hissing when I accelerate. I'm thinking it's a bad wastegate valve. Anyone else run into something similar?

Whoa, that sounds rough! I had almost the exact same symptoms on my old Renault Megane. Check engine light, power loss, whistling sound... Drove me nuts! Does it almost feel like you're dragging an anchor?

Dragging an anchor is a perfect way to describe it! What was the culprit with your Megane? Anything I can check before I start tearing things apart?

Turned out to be the wastegate on the turbo. If yours is stuck open, the turbo can't build boost properly. I'm no mechanic, so I just took it to a shop. Probably best to get yours checked out by someone who knows their stuff. Good luck!

I appreciate the input. The wastegate valve was indeed defect. After I got it replaced, it cost me around 860€ to have it repaired. Now the car drives smoothly again.
