Mondeo Power Loss Whistling Noise
Summary of the thread
A 2011 Ford Mondeo with a diesel engine experienced power loss, poor engine response, increased fuel consumption, and a whistling noise, suspected to be due to a faulty wastegate valve. The symptoms included a check engine light and a loud hissing noise during acceleration. The issue was resolved by replacing the defective wastegate valve, restoring the car's performance.

Dragging an anchor is a perfect way to describe it! What was the culprit with your Megane? Anything I can check before I start tearing things apart?

Turned out to be the wastegate on the turbo. If yours is stuck open, the turbo can't build boost properly. I'm no mechanic, so I just took it to a shop. Probably best to get yours checked out by someone who knows their stuff. Good luck!

I appreciate the input. The wastegate valve was indeed defect. After I got it replaced, it cost me around 860€ to have it repaired. Now the car drives smoothly again.

Whoa, that sounds rough! I had almost the exact same symptoms on my old Renault Megane. Check engine light, power loss, whistling sound... Drove me nuts! Does it almost feel like you're dragging an anchor?
