Yep, same as mine. Ended up being an electrical fault in the release mechanism itself. Best bet is to get it checked at a workshop. They'll diagnose it properly.

I appreciate your guidance immensely. It does appear a workshop visit is unavoidable. The repair cost 210€ and the problem has been resolved.
