Movano Fuel Pressure Issue

Experiencing an issue with my 2019 Renault Movano diesel. After changing the fuel filter myself, the check engine light came on. The engine occasionally stalls when idling, and I've noticed a significant reduction in engine power at 165607 km. Could this be related to a defective fuel pressure regulator, or did I mess something up during the fuel filter change?

Sounds like you might have air in the fuel system. Did you prime the fuel system properly after changing the filter? A pressure drop can definitely trigger the check engine light and cause stalling. The reduced power you're experiencing is a classic symptom. I’ve seen similar issues on other vans, but never had a light after just a fuel filter swap. What error code are you getting?

I don’t have the specific error code because I don't have an OBD reader, but the light comes on intermittently, mostly when the engine is idling. I thought I primed it properly, but perhaps I wasn't thorough enough. Where should I be looking to prime the fuel system? Could a faulty fuel pump also cause these symptoms?

Without the code, it's difficult to pinpoint. Based on the symptoms and you mentioning the filter change, it really screams fuel pressure regulator. It could be a faulty fuel pump too. I recommend taking your Movano to a workshop ASAP; those diesel engines can be extremely sensitive. I had something similar happen on my old van once - thought I could fix it myself, ended up doing way more damage!

I took it to my local mechanic, and they confirmed that the fuel pressure regulator was defective, likely caused by an error entry after my clumsy fuel filter change! Repair including the new regulator only cost 45€.
