Movano Gearbox Problems

Hi, I've got a 2011 Renault Movano diesel. The gearbox is giving me headaches. It has 195199 km on the clock. I'm getting no response from the paddle shifters, the gearbox slips sometimes, and shifting sounds grindy. The shifts are slow, and it's throwing itself into emergency mode. Error codes are also stored. Any ideas?

Hey there! Sounds like a pain with your Movano. Those symptoms together definitely point towards a transmission issue, and the error codes confirm that something's up. Did you by any chance check the transmission fluid level? Low fluid can sometimes cause similar problems. Also, any idea what the exact error codes were? That could give us more clues. It could also be related to the car's computer.

I haven't checked the fluid, no. Where exactly is the fill point? And yeah, I can get the error codes, but do you think it's likely to be the transmission control unit itself that's the issue, given all these problems?

Okay, without knowing the exact error codes, it's tough to say for sure, but based on what you've described, a faulty transmission control unit is definitely a strong possibility. Given all the symptoms -- the unresponsive paddles, slippage, rough shifting, and emergency mode -- it really does sound like the control unit is struggling to manage the gearbox properly. Since you are not a mechanic, it may be best if you take it to a mechanic. These kinds of error codes are not worth the time.

Thanks for the advice. I took it to a garage, and they diagnosed a defective transmission control unit. The repair cost me about 1000€. Now the Movano runs perfectly.
