Movano Overheating

Hi, I have a 2005 Renault Movano with a diesel engine and I'm experiencing overheating issues. The mileage is at 133696 km. I suspect the electric fan is impaired, because the engine gets way too hot. Could a defective cable or plug connection be the cause?

I had a similar issue with my Movano some time ago. It's often the simplest things that cause trouble. Have you checked the fan's relay and the temperature sensor? A faulty sensor can send incorrect signals, like a broken thermostat that's stuck open or shut, messing with the cooling system. Also, did you have a look at the coolant level? Low coolant leads to overheating.

Thanks for the tips! How did you figure out it was the fan relay or temperature sensor? Was the overheating constant, or only under certain conditions? What was your final solution?

In my case, the overheating was more noticeable when idling or in slow traffic, because the fan wasn't kicking in to compensate for the reduced airflow. I couldn't diagnose the problem myself, so I went to a workshop. After some tests, the mechanic found that it was indeed the cable or plug connection of the fan. Better get a professional opinion. It's safer and can save you money in the long run.

Thanks. I took it to a workshop as you suggested, and you were right - a defective cable connection was causing the fan to not work properly. Repair cost me 95€ Appreciate the advice!
