Movano Overheating Issue

My 2005 Renault Movano, diesel engine, is giving me grief. 153425 km on the clock. The radiator fan seems buggered – it's like it's taken a permanent vacation. The engine's overheating like mad, and the check engine light's decided to join the party. I've been tinkering, checking fuses and relays, but nothing seems obviously broken. Could a dodgy speed sensor be the culprit? Anyone else wrestled with this demon?

Sounds frustrating! I had a similar overheating issue with my old Vauxhall Vivaro. Turned out the fan wasn't kicking in properly, and that was causing the engine to run way too hot. Check if the fan blade is obstructed or damaged. I would also suggest you check the car radiator and the engine cooling system. Have you checked the temperature control?

So, with your Vivaro, was it overheating constantly, or only under certain conditions? Was the check engine light on too? And when you say temperature control, where do I find that to check it?

Yep, overheating was pretty consistent once the engine warmed up, especially in traffic. Check engine light was definitely on, throwing all sorts of codes related to the engine temperature. As for the temperature control, I meant the engine coolant temperature sensor. But honestly, after messing about with it for ages, I ended up taking it to a workshop. I recommend you do the same.

Took the Movano to the shop, and you were spot on! It was indeed the coolant temperature sensor causing all the chaos. New sensor fitted, the fan's spinning happily, and the engine's staying cool as a cucumber. Cost me around 250€, all in. Massive thanks for the advice!
