Movano transmission warning light

I'm having trouble with my 2019 Renault Movano, diesel engine, with about 230,000 km on the clock. The transmission warning light keeps appearing, and it's throwing an error code related to the transmission oil pressure sensor. The van's now stuck in emergency mode, and shifting is difficult - sometimes slipping, and even making grinding noises. I checked for any obvious damage to the sensor itself, but I couldn't see anything. Any ideas?

Sounds like a pain. When was the last time you checked the gearbox oil level? Low oil can definitely cause those symptoms with the sensor, especially with that kind of mileage. I had a similar issue on an older van once, and it turned out the oil was just low.

The gearbox oil level, you say? Honestly, I haven't checked it in ages! I didn't even think about that being the issue. Where exactly would I find the dipstick for that on the Movano, or is it one of those sealed units you need to drain and fill?

The Movano doesn't have a dipstick for the gearbox. It's a check-and-fill plug system. Given the symptoms and that you haven't checked it in a while, it's highly likely the oil is low. I'd strongly recommend taking it to a workshop to get it checked and topped up properly before you cause further damage. Those symptoms could quickly escalate into something far more expensive.

Thanks for the advice! I took it to the workshop, and you were spot on – the gearbox oil was critically low. They topped it up, checked for leaks, and replaced the faulty sensor while they were at it. Cost me about 365€ all in, but at least it's running smoothly again! Really appreciate the help!
