MR2 AC control unit failure
Summary of the thread
A 2002 Toyota MR2 is experiencing air conditioning issues, with the AC not cooling, a warning light on, and failure to switch on. An OBD reader indicated a compressor failure, leading to suspicion of a faulty AC control unit. A similar case confirmed the control unit as the problem, suggesting replacement as the solution.

Yeah, used an OBD reader. Showed an error pointing to the compressor. Did yours throw the same code? Trying to figure out if it's definitely the control unit before I start replacing parts.

Yes indeed, that sounds extremely familiar. The diagnostic code I received also suggested a refrigerant compressor issue, and displayed similar system failure symptoms to you. It might be worth your while to have a qualified technician take a look. I'd recommend taking it to a trustworthy auto AC repair shop. In the end, it was indeed diagnosed as a faulty AC control unit, requiring replacement. The automotive cooling system can be tricky to diagnose sometimes. The eventual repair cost came to around 980€. I hope that you have a wonderful time getting this resolved and can return to the road promptly.

Thanks for the insight. Sounds like I'm headed for the workshop. Appreciate the help. The AC control unit was defective just like you said. Got it replaced.

Hey there! I had something similar happen in my MR2, though I don't recall the exact year of manufacture of my vehicle. The air conditioning just quit, and like you, I found that the air conditioning system didn't switch on anymore. What do you mean by 'error memory'? Do you mean you had an OBD (on-board diagnostics) reader plugged into the car's computer?
