MR2 Cold Start Problem Resolved

I am experiencing issues with my 2002 Toyota MR2 (gasoline engine). Mileage is at 174971 km. The engine runs poorly during the cold start phase, and the vehicle starts poorly. Could this be a faulty cold start injector?

MR2, eh? Sounds familiar! I had similar gremlins a while back. Poor cold starts, rough running... Injector issues, you think? Have you tried any injector cleaner? What about fuel delivery?

I have not tried any injector cleaner. What exactly did you experience, and what fixed it in the end?

Okay, so my MR2 was doing the same thing. Really struggled on those cold mornings. I suspected a misfire too, but couldn't pinpoint it. In the end, I took it to a workshop, where they diagnosed a defective injection valve. They suggested an injector test first. They replaced the injector and that sorted it. Definitely get yours checked out. Could be the same issue.

Thank you for the advice. I followed your suggestion and took the MR2 to a workshop. An injector test confirmed a defective injector. The repair, including injector replacement, cost 515€. The cold start problem is now resolved.
