MR2 Engine Starting Issue

Hi, I'm having trouble with my 2007 Toyota MR2, gasoline engine. It's got about 113,560 km on it. Lately, it's been acting up – sometimes it just won't start. Other times, the engine will shut off while I'm driving, which is pretty scary. And even when it does run, it feels kind of rough. I checked the fuses, but they seem okay. Any ideas what could be going on? It feels like there is something wrong with the car electronics or the ignition key. Maybe a starting issue when I turn the key. The engine does not want to start.

I had a similar issue with my MR2, although I can't recall the exact symptoms. It might sound odd, but have you checked the ignition switch itself? It's like a gatekeeper for your car's electrical system; if it's faulty, it can cause all sorts of weird problems, from the engine not starting to cutting out unexpectedly. Think of it as a leaky faucet – even a small drip can cause a flood of problems down the line.

Thanks for the suggestion! When you say 'ignition switch,' do you mean the part where you stick the key? Or is there something else I should be looking for? I'm not really a car expert, so any details would be greatly appreciated. It's probably the car electronics or the ignition key, or maybe a starting issue when I turn the key.

Yes, I'm referring to the part where you insert the key. It's more complex than it appears. Given your description and my past experience, it might be best to have a professional take a look. It could be a defective fuse, as you mentioned, but the ignition switch itself might be the culprit, or perhaps something related to the wiring. A mechanic can diagnose the issue accurately and prevent further damage. Much like a doctor is better equipped to diagnose an illness than you would be yourself. That said, the repair cost should be around 52€.

Thanks again for the advice. I took it to a mechanic, and you were right – it was the ignition switch! They replaced it, and now it's running smoothly again. The fuse was defective, too. I really appreciate your help!
