MR2 Oil Pressure Warning
Summary of the thread
The initial concern was about a 2004 Toyota MR2 displaying a speedometer warning light and an oil pressure warning lamp. The potential cause identified was contaminated engine oil due to exceeding the maintenance interval. The suggested solution was to check the oil's condition, and it was confirmed that the oil was darker than usual, indicating contamination. The resolution involved taking the car to a workshop, where an oil change and filter replacement were performed.

Thanks for the quick reply. The oil does appear darker than usual. I haven't used any additives. Could the contaminated oil be the problem, and what might happen if this continues?

Okay, darker oil is a definite red flag – think of it like murky water in a fish tank. It suggests the oil isn't doing its job properly. Since you're not using additives, and the oil is dark, I'd lean towards that being the cause. Continuing to drive like that is risky. You could be looking at some serious engine damage down the road, like the engine not getting enough lubrication and parts grinding against each other. Honestly, I'd take it to a workshop to get it checked out.

I appreciate your insights and analogy, which helped a lot. I followed your advice and took the car to a workshop. It was determined that the maintenance interval had been exceeded, leading to oil contamination. An oil change and filter replacement were done for 165€.

Hey, that sounds worrying! When the oil pressure light comes on, it's like your car is screaming for help. Have you checked the oil color recently? Is it sludgy or darker than usual? Also, what oil additives are you using, if any? Sometimes, the wrong additives can cause issues with oil pressure and overall engine lubrication, like putting the wrong kind of sauce on a perfectly good pizza.
