MR2 rough idle and stalling

I'm having a weird issue with my 2004 Toyota MR2 (gasoline engine). The check engine light is on, and the engine runs really rough, especially at idle – sometimes it even stalls. It also jerks a bit when accelerating. I scanned it, and it's showing a defective fuel pressure sensor. I checked the wiring as best I could. Could be the cable or plug connection defective, right?

Sounds familiar! I had similar symptoms – rough idle and stalling – with my old Opel Astra. Turned out to be a dodgy fuel pump relay. Have you checked the fuel pump itself, or just the sensor and wiring?

Just the sensor and wiring so far. How did you figure out it was the fuel pump relay? Was it throwing a specific code, or did you just start troubleshooting the fuel delivery system?

Well, it wasn't throwing a fuel pump code initially, but eventually, it did. I'd start with the fuel pressure sensor since that's the code you're getting, but if the wiring looks good, it might be worth getting the fuel pump checked out at a workshop. Could save you some headache down the road.

Thanks for the advice! Took it to a local mechanic, and you were spot on about getting it checked out. Turns out the fuel pressure sensor was indeed defective, and the cable connection was a bit corroded. They replaced the sensor and cleaned up the connection. Cost me 95€, but the car runs like new again!
