MR2 rough running and stalling

Hey, I've got a 2002 Toyota MR2 with a gasoline engine that's giving me headaches. It's got about 71853 km on the clock. Recently, it's been running rough, stalls at idle, and the check engine light is on. Plus, it jerks when accelerating. I suspect it might be a defective ignition coil, maybe a bad connection on the cable or plug. Any thoughts?

Sounds familiar. I had a similar issue with my MR2 (don't remember the year exactly). Rough running and stalling can often point to ignition problems. Have you checked the ignition system components, including the spark plugs and the coil packs? When the engine hesitates, it's often unburnt fuel.

Yeah, I suspected the coil pack connection. How did you eventually solve the rough running and stalling? Was it definitely the coil?

It was definitely related to the ignition. Turned out one of the coils was faulty. Best to get it properly diagnosed at a workshop to be sure, but the symptoms are very similar to what I experienced.

Thanks for the advice! Took it to the workshop as you suggested. Turns out it was a defective ignition coil indeed, just like we thought. New one cost me 95€ fitted and the car runs smoothly now.
