MR2 Transmission Issues

The error code points to a defective torque converter lock-up clutch. Does that sound right given the symptoms? Is it something that can be fixed, or am I looking at a full transmission replacement?

That diagnostic information is quite revealing. The behavior you detailed initially, in concert with the logged error code, strongly suggests the torque converter lock-up clutch is compromised. Think of it like a worn-out brake pad - eventually, it will affect overall braking performance. Given the intricate nature of automatic transmissions and the specialized tools required for internal repairs, I would strongly recommend consulting a qualified automotive technician. Further investigation is warranted to assess the extent of the damage.

Appreciate the advice. Took it to a workshop, and they confirmed the torque converter was defective. Repair cost came to about 2120€. Thanks again for the help!

Based on the symptoms you describe – the illuminated warning lights, shift anomalies, and atypical auditory feedback from the transmission – a defect within the automatic transmission assembly is plausible. The error code you extracted from the ECU would be most informative in furthering a diagnostic conclusion. Without that data, it is difficult to offer specific advice. Could you retrieve the error code, please? This is similar to describing a medical condition without specifying your temperature; it limits the diagnostic ability.
