Multifunction Steering Wheel Unresponsive
Summary of the thread
The multifunction steering wheel of a 2019 SLC diesel was unresponsive, with diagnostics indicating an error related to the steering wheel controls. The issue was suspected to be a defective cable connection, possibly involving the clock spring, a rotary connector in the steering column. After consulting with others and considering potential causes, it was confirmed that the problem was indeed a damaged wire within the steering wheel, which was resolved at a workshop for 95€.

Interesting The clock spring is a good shout Was the error code specific to the steering wheel controls on your Astra, or was it more generic I'm trying to narrow down the possibilities before I commit to the repair I was hoping to avoid a complex diagnostic procedure

The error code on my Astra was vague, something about a short circuit I tried to fix it myself, but I made it worse I should've taken it to the workshop Sounds like you're on the right track with the cable connection theory Maybe a loose connector It's best to have a professional look, especially with the airbags

For anyone following along, the clock spring was the problem I took it to the workshop, and it was a damaged wire within the steering wheel 95€ later, the multifunction steering wheel is back in action Thanks for the insight It helped me approach the mechanic with a better understanding

That's tricky I had a similar problem with my old Vauxhall Astra, though not the same The horn and radio controls stopped working It was a broken clock spring, some sort of rotary connector in the steering column Maybe your Mercedes has something similar I'm not sure of the repair cost, but yours will be more expensive It could be a simple fix
