Lights are turning on

Hey everyone, having some weird electrical issues with my 2023 BMW iX1. Several systems stopped working simultaneously, rain sensor, auto headlights, speedo dimming, and there's a stored error code. Pretty sure it's related to the rain/light sensor, but need some real-world experience here. Has anyone dealt with this before? What did your mechanic find and how was it fixed? Would appreciate any insights.

Hey there! I have some experience with EVs and had a similar issue with my 2021 BMW i4 (also own an iX3). Those symptoms sound exactly like what I dealt with last month, turned out to be bubbles forming under the gel pad of the windshield sensor. The bubbles were messing with all those automated functions you mentioned. The fix was pretty straightforward, my workshop replaced the sensor pad and recalibrated the system. Cost me 62 Euro and about an hour of time. Everything's been working perfectly since. Could you share more details about when these issues started? Did you notice any changes after extreme weather conditions or after your windshield got really hot? This might help confirm if we're dealing with the same problem.

Thanks for sharing your experience! My iX1 has 195,715 KM on the clock and I'm having these issues despite being serviced just last month. Those symptoms sound spot-on with what I'm experiencing. Interesting about the bubbles in the sensor pad, now that you mention it, we did have a streak of really hot days right before these problems started. Definitely going to get this checked out at the workshop. Good to know it's potentially a straightforward fix rather than some major electrical gremlin!

Hey again! Yeah, that's definitely ringing some bells with my experience. The timing with the hot weather makes perfect sense, those sensor pads can be really sensitive to extreme temperatures. My i4 had around 180,000 KM when I had the same issue, so we're in a similar boat mileage-wise. Just a heads up, when I got mine fixed, they mentioned these sensor pads typically last about 150,000-200,000 KM, so it's actually pretty normal for them to start acting up around this time. The heat just probably sped up the deterioration process. One thing I forgot to mention in my first reply, before getting it fixed, I tried cleaning around the sensor area thinking it might help, but it made zero difference. So don't waste your time with that like I did! Just get it straight to the workshop and have them replace that pad. Since you recently had it serviced, maybe give them a call and mention this issue. They might even do it under warranty since it's so close to your last service. Worth asking, right? Let me know how it goes when you get it sorted. Always good to share these experiences for other BMW owners!

Thanks for all the helpful info! Just wanted to update, took your advice and called the workshop where I had my recent service done. They were really understanding about the situation and agreed to take a look under a partial warranty since it's so close to my last service visit. They confirmed it's exactly what you experienced, those pesky bubbles in the sensor pad. Getting it fixed tomorrow morning and they quoted me about half the normal cost due to the warranty coverage. Really glad I reached out to this group, saved me from stressing about potential major electrical problems and probably saved me some money too! I'll definitely keep an eye on the sensor after hot weather spells now that I know they can be sensitive. Thanks again for sharing your experience. Good to know that our cars are starting to show similar wear patterns around the same mileage point. If anyone else runs into this issue, now we know it's a pretty standard fix!

Let our mechanics help you!
