Multiple System Errors Plague BMW i4, SOS System Suspect

Hi everyone! My 2023 BMW i4 displays multiple errors simultaneously, warning lights in the dash, error messages in both the speedometer and nav screen. I suspect it's related to the emergency call system malfunction. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms in their i4? What did the workshop diagnose and how was it resolved? Would appreciate hearing about your repair experiences. Thanks

Hi there! I have some experience with EVs and had a very similar issue with my 2021 BMW iX3 last summer (also have an i3 in the family). Those symptoms sound exactly like what I dealt with, multiple warnings popping up everywhere. Turned out to be a loose connection in the emergency call system wiring harness. The workshop found a faulty cable connection that was causing all those error messages. It was a pretty straightforward fix once they diagnosed it, cost me 95 Euro for the repair. What's your mileage and have you noticed any pattern when these errors appear? Like after charging or when using specific features? This info could help narrow down if it's the same issue I had. Take it to a certified workshop to check it out, these electrical gremlins can be tricky to diagnose yourself, but they're usually not major problems once identified.

Thanks for sharing your experience! My i4 just hit 137571 KM and I've noticed these errors popping up mostly after fast charging sessions. It's good to hear yours was just a wiring issue, gives me some peace of mind. I actually had my last service a couple weeks ago but they didn't catch this problem. I'll definitely get it checked at the dealership since it's still under warranty. Hope it's a simple fix like yours was.

Hey again! Yeah, that's really interesting that you're seeing it after fast charging, that's exactly when mine started acting up too! Since we last spoke about my iX3's issue, I've actually had it happen one more time, but it was definitely related to the same wiring problem. Just to add to my previous experience, after that first repair I mentioned, I noticed that high-speed charging seemed to trigger the warnings because of the heat buildup around those connections. The cable routing near the emergency call system gets pretty warm during fast charging sessions. Given your mileage (mine was around 125,000 km when it happened), and the similar pattern with charging, I'm even more convinced it's the same issue. The good thing is, after they properly secured all the connections and added some extra protection to the wiring harness, I haven't had any problems with regular charging. Since you mentioned it's still under warranty, you should definitely push them to check that specific wiring connection I told you about. Sometimes they miss it during regular service because it's not a common check point. Make sure to mention the charging correlation, that'll help them diagnose it faster than they did with mine.

Thanks for the detailed follow-up! That's super helpful to know about the heat buildup during charging, it makes total sense why these errors keep showing up after my fast charging sessions. I'll definitely mention this specific issue about the wiring near the emergency call system when I take it in. Really appreciate you sharing the extra details about your second occurrence too. I've already called the dealership and booked it in for next week. You've saved me a lot of hassle by pointing them in the right direction. I've also started using regular charging for now just to be on the safe side until they can check it out. Will update the forum once it's fixed in case anyone else runs into the same problem!
