Multiple Warning Lights Point to Oil Sensor Problem

My 2011 Caliber is showing multiple warning indicators including the oil pressure light. The engine oil monitoring system seems to be acting up with error messages in the cluster. While the engine runs fine, these warnings are concerning. I suspect a faulty oil level sensor but want to verify before replacing parts. Has anyone dealt with similar sensor issues on their Caliber? Looking for guidance on troubleshooting steps and repair experiences, particularly if you had it fixed at a shop. Would really appreciate hearing what the actual problem turned out to be and what it took to resolve it. Any advice on typical repair costs would also be helpful.

Summary of the thread

The conversation centers around a 2011 Caliber displaying multiple warning lights, including the oil pressure light, which suggests a potential oil sensor problem. The issue is suspected to be a faulty oil level sensor, possibly due to a damaged wiring harness connector, as similar symptoms were resolved in another vehicle by addressing corroded connections. The suggested solution involves inspecting and repairing the sensor's wiring and connections, which previously cost 95€ for a similar fix. This approach is recommended to stabilize the oil monitoring system and prevent future issues.

I had a very similar issue with my 2013 Avenger last year. Since both cars share similar engine oil monitoring systems, I can share my experience as someone with moderate expertise working on these models. The oil pressure warning lights and sensor errors turned out to be from a damaged wiring harness connector at the oil sensor. The oil gauge readings were completely unreliable, jumping from normal to critical without any actual oil pressure changes. Took it to my regular workshop where they diagnosed a faulty sensor connection. The plug had corroded over time, causing intermittent contact issues. The total repair cost was 95€, which included cleaning the connector, replacing damaged wiring, and resetting the system. Before you proceed with repairs, could you share: Current mileage on your Caliber, Whether the warnings are constant or intermittent, If you notice any oil leaks or unusual engine sounds, When you last changed the oil This information would help determine if you are dealing with the same electrical issue or potentially something different with your oil monitoring system. While the engine running fine is a good sign, these warnings should not be ignored as they are part of critical engine protection systems.

Thanks for the detailed feedback. My Caliber currently has 55489 KM. The oil pressure warnings are indeed intermittent, typically showing up after the engine warms up. The automotive oil system was serviced just last month with a full synthetic oil change. No visible leaks or unusual sounds from the engine. The scenario you described with the wiring harness connector makes sense, especially since the oil monitoring signals seem erratic. The repair cost you mentioned is reasonable if it solves these unusual warning lights. Was the oil gauge reading accurate after fixing the connector in your case? Will have the oil detection system checked focusing on the wiring and sensor connections based on your experience. A 95€ repair would be much better than replacing the entire oil monitoring unit.

Thanks for providing those details. Yes, after repairing the connector on my Avenger, the oil gauge readings stabilized completely. The erratic behavior you describe, warnings appearing after warm-up, matches exactly what I experienced with the faulty connection. The oil sensor was actually reading correctly intermittently, but the corroded connector was disrupting the oil monitoring signals, causing those unusual warning lights. Once the wiring was fixed, the entire oil detection system returned to normal function. With your low mileage and recent oil service, I am even more convinced you are dealing with the same electrical issue rather than an actual oil pressure problem. The repair should be straightforward for any shop familiar with these oil monitoring systems. One recommendation based on my experience, have them check the entire sensor wiring path while they are in there. Sometimes moisture can travel along the wire and cause corrosion at multiple points in the oil signal circuit. Getting it all cleaned and sealed properly prevents the issue from returning. The 95€ I paid included a thorough check of the whole oil monitoring pathway. Definitely worth having them do the complete inspection rather than just fixing the obvious connector.

I appreciate how thoroughly you laid out your experience with a similar oil sensor issue. Given my Caliber's current situation with just 55489 KM and a recent oil change, it really helps to know this could be solved with a simple wiring fix rather than major repairs. Based on how the oil pressure warnings show up after warm-up, and considering there are no engine noise issues or leaks, I feel more confident now that the problem lies in the electrical system rather than actual oil pressure concerns. The similarity to your experience with erratic oil monitoring signals is reassuring. Your repair cost of 95€ for cleaning and fixing the connectors in the oil detection system seems quite reasonable. Good tip about having them inspect the entire wiring path for the oil sensor, will definitely request that to prevent future issues. Think I will book it in next week to have the electrical connections checked. After hearing how your oil gauge readings normalized once repaired, I am hopeful for a similarly straightforward fix. Really appreciate you sharing your repair experience in such detail.
