Murano Oil Temperature Warning Light

Hi, I have a 2009 Nissan Murano with a diesel engine and I'm having some trouble. The oil temperature warning light is on in the speedometer. I ran a car diagnostic and it shows an error stored in the error memory related to the oil temperature sensor. Also, the oil pressure warning lamp sometimes lights up. I checked the sensor, and it seems like the cable or plug connection might be defective. Has anyone experienced something similar?

That does sound like a faulty oil temperature sensor or a wiring issue related to it. The oil pressure warning light coming on could be a consequence of the ECU misinterpreting the oil temperature. Have you checked the wiring harness for any visible damage, corrosion, or loose connections? Also, what's the mileage on your Murano?

Thanks for the reply! The mileage is 47023 km. I did check the wiring and plug as best I could, but couldn't see any obvious damage. Is there a way to test the sensor itself to be sure?

Given the symptoms and the error code, plus the fact you visually inspected the wiring, it's highly probable that the sensor is indeed faulty. While you could try to test the sensor's resistance, it's not always conclusive without the proper tools and specs. Considering the relatively low mileage, it might be worth getting it checked by a workshop to confirm the diagnosis. A faulty sensor can cause cascading errors.

Thanks a lot for the advice! I took it to a local workshop, and you were right. It was the oil temperature sensor. They replaced it, and the warning lights are gone. The total repair cost was 95€ Appreciate the help!
