Mustang emergency call system error

I'm having a nightmare with the emergency call system on my 2003 Ford Mustang (gasoline engine). The system keeps throwing an error, which means a warning light and an error message are constantly on in the speedometer. It's driving me nuts! I'm guessing it's a defective cable or plug connection somewhere. Has anyone else run into this?

Sounds familiar. I had something similar happen on my old BMW 3 Series. It turned out to be a faulty connection in the telematics module – basically, the unit that handles the SOS signal and other connected services. Have you checked for any specific diagnostic codes? That might give you a better idea of where the problem lies.

Diagnostic codes, huh? Good shout. Where would I even start looking for those? Is that something I can check myself, or am I better off just taking it to a shop?

You could try an OBD-II scanner – they're pretty cheap online and can read basic error codes. If you're not comfortable with that, a workshop is probably the way to go. They'll have the proper diagnostic tools to pinpoint the exact issue. Given the 'likely cause' you mentioned, they will check cable and plug connections of the component. I ended up needing to get mine professionally sorted.

Okay, thanks for the help! Turns out it WAS a loose connector. Workshop diagnosed it in minutes, tightened it up, and cleared the error. 95€ later and the Mustang is happy again. Cheers!
