Mustang faulty exhaust temperature sensor

My 2000 Ford Mustang, gasoline engine, is showing a faulty exhaust temperature sensor. Mileage is at 100044 km. The check engine light comes on, engine power is reduced, and fuel consumption is higher than usual. I suspect a leak in the exhaust system is the root cause. Has anyone else experienced this?

Sounds familiar! I had similar issues with my Mustang (don't remember the year). Check engine light, sluggish performance, the whole shebang. Is the exhaust louder than normal too?

Yes, the exhaust note does seem a bit louder. Did you also experience increased fuel consumption? What was the eventual fix for your car?

Yep, the fuel consumption was definitely up. Honestly, I messed around with it for too long. Save yourself the headache and take it to a workshop. They'll diagnose it properly.

Thanks for the advice. Turns out it was a faulty exhaust temperature sensor and a small leak. Sensor replacement and exhaust repair cost me 265€. Running much better now!
