Mustang immobilizer problem
Summary of the thread
A 2001 Ford Mustang faced an immobilizer problem where the engine either failed to start or started briefly before cutting out, with an error stored in the memory. The suspected cause was incorrect key programming. The solution involved taking the car to a workshop where the key was reprogrammed, resolving the issue.
Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Yes, the security light does flash. I have not yet tried the spare key. If the spare key exhibits the same problem, what would be the next logical step in diagnosing the fault?

When the spare key did not work on my Astra, it unfortunately pointed to a deeper issue with the immobilizer system itself. While some suggest immobilizer bypass, I would recommend taking it to a workshop with the right diagnostic tools. They can recode the key or diagnose a faulty receiver.

Thank you for the advice. The workshop confirmed the key programming was incorrect. They reprogrammed the key, and the issue is now resolved. Total cost: 45€.

I had similar issues with my 2012 Opel Astra. The anti-theft system went crazy. Does the security light flash when you try to start it? Have you tried your spare key to rule out a faulty transponder in the primary key?
