Mustang MAF Sensor Issues
Summary of the thread
A 2011 Ford Mustang is experiencing increased fuel consumption, engine stalling when idling, and a persistent check engine light, with smoke observed during acceleration. These issues suggest a potentially defective Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor. Cleaning the sensor might offer a temporary fix, but replacement is likely necessary for a long-term solution.

Thanks for the tip! I haven't tried cleaning it yet. Thought if it was bad enough to cause all these issues, cleaning wouldn't do much. Was cleaning yours enough to fix it, or did you end up replacing the sensor?

I tried cleaning it, but it only helped briefly. Eventually, I had to replace the whole sensor. If cleaning doesn't solve it permanently, I'd recommend a good workshop. They can properly diagnose it and install a new MAF sensor. It cost me around 365€ with parts and labor.

Appreciate the advice! Sounds like replacement is the way to go. I'll try cleaning it first, but I'm ready to visit the mechanic and have them replace the MAF sensor. Thanks for sharing your experience! I was quoted about the same price, so I think I'll go with it.

I had a similar problem with my Mustang a while back. Same symptoms – check engine light, rough idle, and the feeling that the car was just dragging. It definitely sounds like your MAF sensor. Have you tried cleaning it first? Sometimes they just get dirty.
