Mustang Overheating Active Air Flap Fault
Summary of the thread
A 2006 Ford Mustang is experiencing overheating issues and a check engine light, with diagnostic codes indicating a fault in the active air flaps in the grille. The problem is suspected to be a faulty electromechanism, particularly affecting the vehicle when idling or in slow traffic. A similar case was resolved by replacing the defective actuator, which successfully eliminated the overheating and check engine light issues.

Thanks for the quick reply! It tends to overheat more when idling or in slow-moving traffic. When I'm cruising at higher speeds, the temperature seems to regulate itself a bit better. Could it be the same for you?

Yes, that sounds very similar to what I experienced. Given your mileage and the symptoms, it's likely the same actuator issue. I'd suggest taking it to a reputable workshop for a proper diagnosis and repair. In my case, the electromechanism was indeed defective. Better safe than sorry with overheating!

Appreciate the advice! Sounds like I'll bite the bullet and get it looked at. I was dreading it, but it's reassuring to know someone else has been through the same ordeal. Thanks for confirming my suspicions. I got the flaps replaced, the repair bill came to 590€. The overheating and check engine light are gone!

I had a similar issue with my Mustang. Is it constantly overheating, or only under specific conditions?
