Navara ABS Lamp Issue

Hey, I'm having a weird issue with my 2004 Nissan Navara with a gasoline engine. The ABS lamp lights up constantly, and it feels like the whole ABS system is just not working at all! I scanned it, and it's throwing a 'lateral acceleration sensor fault'. Any ideas what could be going on? Could it be a steering angle thing?

The lateral acceleration sensor, sometimes referred to as a yaw rate sensor, provides data to the vehicle stability control and traction control systems. The error code and symptoms you describe are consistent with a fault in this area. Has the vehicle sustained any damage that might affect the sensor's physical integrity or wiring harness?

Thanks for the info! No recent damage that I know of. Where is the sensor located, and is there a way to test it, maybe with a multimeter or something? Or is this more likely an issue with the control unit itself, like the computer that runs the ABS?

The sensor's location varies but is frequently under the driver's seat or center console. Direct testing requires specialized diagnostic equipment. Based on your description, a defective control unit is plausible. If the fault persists, professional diagnosis is advisable.

Okay, thanks for the help. Looks like I'll have to bite the bullet and take it to a workshop. They said it's most likely the ABS control unit and quoted around 1000€ for the repair. Ouch!
