Navara EGR Valve Issue

I'm having trouble with my 2014 Nissan Navara diesel with 82000 km. I've noticed a serious drop in power, and the check engine light is constantly on. When I accelerate, especially uphill, there's black smoke and the engine runs really rough, almost misfiring. Fuel consumption seems higher, and it sometimes jerks. Also, I hear a loud hissing when accelerating. I've checked the basics, but nothing seems wrong. Could this be something with the EGR valve? Has anyone experienced similar issues?

Sounds familiar. I had similar symptoms with my Navara: reduced engine power, a rough idle, and the check engine light. In my case, this was caused by a jammed EGR valve. Are you approaching your next emissions test? A defective EGR will probably lead to failing, as it impacts emissions and can even damage the catalytic converter. Do you have a rough idle too?

Thanks for the quick reply. A jammed EGR valve sounds like a real possibility. I have a jerky idle too, especially when the engine is cold. How did you eventually fix it?

I'm not a mechanic, so I took it straight to a workshop I know. They confirmed it was the EGR valve. I could theoretically have tried to clean it first, but I decided to get it replaced immediately. I guess you will have to get it checked at a workshop too

Thanks for sharing this helpful advice. I took it to a mechanic, who confirmed the EGR valve was defective. They replaced it for 355€, and now it runs smoothly again. I appreciate your help!
