Nemo exhaust back pressure sensor issue

I need help! My 2009 Citroen Nemo, gasoline engine, with 52245 km has a warning light. It smokes when I accelerate. OBD2 says exhaust back pressure sensor malfunction. I think that is it, but I am not 100% certain. Anyone seen this?

Sounds familiar! My old Opel Astra had similar symptoms: warning light, smoke on acceleration. The diagnostic tool showed a DPF issue. DPF measures exhaust back pressure and the sensor seemed faulty. Is the exhaust back pressure sensor easy to reach on your Nemo? It could be a simple fix if it's a loose connection or damaged wire.

Thanks for the reply! Good to know someone else has experienced something similar. I haven't looked at the exhaust back pressure sensor location yet. Should I try cleaning the sensor first, or is it more likely a complete failure, requiring replacement?

Cleaning might help, but on my Astra, the sensor was shot. Check the wiring and connections first, but be ready to replace the sensor. Those sensors are sensitive. You can probably find the sensor online, but a garage can source the correct part.

The exhaust back pressure sensor was defective, as the OBD2 reader said. The mechanic replaced it and cleared the error codes, and now it runs great. The repair cost 245€, including the sensor and labor. Lesson learned: those sensors can cause headaches!
